As a Doula and End of Life Guide, I want to provide comfort and psychosocial support to caregivers and individuals who have chosen to die at home. Some call it being a companion and walking alongside others on their final journey. Hospice offers this to some extent through their volunteer programs. However, when I served as a volunteer, the pairing process often felt random and limited. I'd be given an assignment with very limited information and just show up usually to give a caregiver a break.
